Why could your BSNL broadband be slow ?

User Knowledge - Beginners/intermediate

Location - India

BSNL is the most widespread network across the country and it is serviceable in places where no other network is. Its broadband services are widely popular too because of the fixed line penetration of the company in the nation. But at times we tend to witness lower download speeds than usual and often end up blaming BSNL for it. So here are some tips that could help you determine as to why your connection is slow and how can you speed things up.

bsnl broadband modem

1. Distance from exchange more than 5KM, you will get slow speed.
2. Faulty cable, rains cause high line attenuation and low SNR margin.
3. Faulty BSNL modem and splitter.
4. Issues with local exchange of BSNL main node.
5. High usage traffic on BSNL network during day time.

6. Faulty land line is taking too much power from BSNL line.

Recommendations

1) It is recommended that distance should not be more than 2 to 3 KM or db (signal) loss should not be more than 20.

2) Lineman should be pursued to install cable without or least number of joints.

3) Nowadays, customers install their own modem purchasing from market. When you purchase your own mobile set and not Company set, why should one dependent on BSNL modem. Commercially, it is beneficial to customers too in case they purchase it from market.

4) Problem can be solved with a single call as it simply needs to reset.

5) Which is why, Corporates take dedicated leased lines.

6) If land line is faulty, voice transmission is still possible but not Broad band.

There are some more reasons for which your Broadband can be slow.. They are

1) If your computer is virus infected. Use reliable anti Virus.

2) Original OS has security patches and helps to maintain speed.

3) Low RAM can slow your Computer itself while downloading big files.

Regular Disk optimising , scanning while computer not in use, deleting unnecessary files should routinely be pursued.

Tip: The first and foremost thing to check for is if you've exceeded your FUP (Fair Usage Policy). Every plan (even the unlimited ones) have a stipulated limit up till which they'll offer you higher speeds. So you need to see if you have surpassed your download limits.BSNL’s servers might not be the best one out there and your browser searches for the IP address every time you try to view a website. Shifting to an OpenDNS or Google DNS will surely help you boost your browsing speeds which will also help to see some changes in your browsing speed.Just turn off the auto updates of your system. These consume a lot of data and with downloads going on in the background, you often lose out on browsing speeds. This way you can speed up your browsing speeds and not blame BSNL for doing so.

Yes, they take day's depending on the location to take care of your complaints but their coverage is surely unmatched ;)
